ISO 9001 is the international standard for quality management systems. For a data centre it governs how processes are defined and controlled, how nonconformity is handled, and how customer requirements are captured and met — which in practice means maintenance regimes, change control and service delivery.
It is the oldest and most widely held of the management system standards, and the one whose structure the others follow. Certifying it first often makes the rest cheaper, because the shared clauses are already evidenced.

Process approach
Processes identified with inputs, outputs, owners and measures — not a procedure library nobody reads.
Change control
Planned changes assessed and controlled. In a data centre this is where quality management and operational reality meet most directly.
Nonconformity and corrective action
Findings recorded, root cause established, action taken, effectiveness verified. Verification is the step most often missing.
Management review
Inputs specified by the standard, covered and recorded, at planned intervals.

Common questions
Is ISO 9001 worth it for a data centre?
Its direct commercial value is lower than ISO 27001 in most tenders, but it is the cheapest way to build the management system spine that 14001, 45001 and 50001 all reuse. Operators certifying several standards usually find 9001 pays for itself in reduced effort elsewhere.
How does it relate to uptime commitments?
ISO 9001 does not set availability targets. It governs whether the processes that deliver your commitments are defined, controlled and improved, and whether failures are properly investigated.
